pigs: 5# / day x 100 = 500# / day chickens: 2oz / day x 100 = 12.5 # / day call it 1000# fodder / day fodder grows in about 7 days ergo, need to have capacity for 7000# 48 lb/bu -> 145 bu (311,811 in^3) @ 1in depth = 2165 sqft (50 x 50 approx) 300 sqft/day (30x10)

questions and options

Watering

  • Move the trays
  • Move the water

Containment

  • Removable Trays
  • Movable Trays
  • Fixed Trays
  • Conveyor Belt

Unloading

  • Tip the box out
  • Push/scrape the trays out
  • Automate or not?

Seeding

  • Manual
  • Automated

Thoughts

If you have a continuous conveyor belt type system, you can automate everything using stations If you have fixed trays, complexity reduction is a toss-up on account of water, seeding, offloading as these now need to be indexed operations The centralized robot PnP option gives ultimate flexibility to do things out-of-order

Decent combos

  • similar to hydrogreen, but a series of hanging trays on a chain conveyor
  • literally just hydrogreen with mechanical simplifications
  • static racks for 1020 trays stacked 7-deep with drip pans underneath
  • round trays on a spiral conveyor

Issues (which might not be issues)

  • Drainage control
  • Even watering
  • Lighting
  • Mold buildup and cleaning
  • Contamination
