Spiritual combatants!
Some summary points from the chapters discussed last night:
8 - Do not let your affections be quickly attached to things. Be discerning, do not rush.
9 - Be discerning with what things you concern yourself with. Do what is necessary, do not be distracted from the work of God. Do not idolize your own understanding: listen to proper authorities, mentors, and so forth.
10 - Be sure that you do things for love of God - examine your motives. The man who desires God's will is not angry, frustrated, or impatient at setbacks or adversity.
11 - God fights for us, guards us, nourishes us - no better king to serve!
12 - Within us there is both reason and appetite. We must use reason to curb the appetite. This will be a struggle.
13 - A four-step way to overcome vices: 1. See your vice inflamed - 2. Release your vicious passion - 3. Have contempt for the vice - 4. Perform virtue contrary to the vice
14 - Some points to consider when you are faced with unjust accusations: perhaps you deserve adversity either now or from something in the past - remember that the road to heaven is laced with adversity, seeing adversity is a good sign - Christ suffered in this way as well - God loves you and delights to see you overcome adversity
